2024-2025 Studio Policies
1. Fees. Studio fees must be pre-paid by semester in order to maintain a standing appointment. Invoices can be paid in full or in two instalments. The first payment of lessons are due September 9, 2024 (or on the first date of lessons for late registrants). Any unused travel fees will be credited back to the student’s account. Registration fees are non-refundable. Please click here to view complete information about our lesson rates, registration fee, and in-home lesson travel fees.
2. Student absences. (i) Regarding all student absences: students are guaranteed credits for two make-up lessons for the term. Subsequent absences will result in forfeited lesson fees. Any further make-up lessons must be requested for in writing and will only be provided at the instructor’s discretion;
2(ii) For any instructor absences, make-up lessons will be provided. In the rare event that the instructor is unable to accommodate a make-up lesson, a refund will be issued.
3. Schedule changes. A student may request to change their standing appointment out of a need to resolve an unforeseen scheduling conflict. Changes to a schedule are subject to approval of the instructor. Once a change has been confirmed and processed, the studio reserves the right to offer the vacated lesson time to another student at its discretion.
4. Withdrawal from lessons. (i) Students are given a grace period of two weeks from their first lesson taken to fully withdraw from lessons without penalty. After the two-week grace period has passed, the studio reserves the right to collect a cancellation fee equivalent to what three lessons would cost should the student intends to withdraw from lessons immediately;
4(ii) The cancellation fee will be waived when the student/parent gives three weeks advance notice of their intention to withdraw from lessons. Any lessons missed by the student after notice has been given will be ineligible for make-ups and related fees will be forfeited;
4(iii) Any pre-paid lesson and travel fees, minus the cancellation fee (where applicable), will be refunded.
5. In-home lessons. (i) Students registered for in-home lessons must be prepared to go online at any time;
5(ii) When a student is under the age of 10, an older family member must be at home while lessons take place. While we care for our students’ general safety and well-being and will conduct lessons with the utmost professionalism, our services are limited to musical instruction. We will not be held responsible for providing additional care beyond the scope of our services in the absence of an adult caregiver;
5(iii) It is important that all members of the household are free of cold- or flu-like symptoms for an in-home lesson to occur. This strict policy is in place in order to protect the health of all in-home students and their family members. If an online lesson is not an option due to logistical reasons or due to the student’s state of health, the lesson, subject to our make-up lesson policy (see #2), will be cancelled and marked as a student absence.
5(iv) If a student begins to experience any symptoms during a lesson, the lesson will conclude immediately and will be marked as a lesson attended and fulfilled;
5(v) Regarding in-home lesson spaces: students/parents are expected to maintain a clean and tidy learning environment. Please dust and sanitize piano keys regularly, as well other pieces of furniture used for a lesson. Ventilating the space is no longer mandatory (as with wearing masks) but is still recommended.
5(vi) Students taking semi-private in-home lessons are expected to attend lessons in pairs in order to ensure progress as a team. In the event that one student is unable attend a lesson, it is the instructor’s sole discretion to determine whether the lesson will either continue as a private lesson in lieu of a student cancellation or be cancelled, subject to policy #2.
The studio reserves the right to amend the above policies at any time.
